Bill Shorten’s trouble with the Royal Commission is an
example of a general problem for Labor.
Labor people tend to work for not-for-profits working for the general
good, so people think they’re aspiring to be saints and leap upon any
shortcomings as signs that they have feet of clay. Liberals proudly work for capitalist pigs and
are assumed to be sinners, and so any actions they take that aren’t
specifically directed towards grinding the faces of the widow and the orphan
are taken as signs of transcendent virtue. One man can steal a horse where
another can’t look over a fence.
